Las Carolinas is the first building complex which is subject to the Right of Use. Its statutes have been approved by the Regional Government of Madrid. The building consists of 17 apartments, which especially focuses on the community. It is a combination of both private areas and large common areas. By means of a participatory methodology, the residents decide on how they want to live, which spaces they want to occupy, where and how much they will be able to pay. There are no external promoters. The aforementioned group of residents takes the form of a cooperative society which will keep on existing over the whole life of the building. There is no horizontal division. The project is developed in accordance with the latest innovations concerning ecological architecture. In order to do so, the following is being taken into account: high energy efficiency criteria, an analysis of the life cycle, bio-construction, water management, a geo-environmental analysis and a bioclimatic design. Entrepatios is a nearly zero energy building which is economically, socially and environmentally sustainable.
